You can bring over all of your data to Map My Customers at once by importing files from another CRM or spreadsheet. There are some steps to take before starting to make sure that the process goes smoothly.
This article will go over the steps to take before starting your first import, when you are ready to import for the first time head to the Import Overview article.
During the import process you will upload a .CSV file and choose which columns correspond to which Map My Customers fields.
If you haven't set up Custom Fields make sure to do so before starting the import process.
Required Fields
Each record type has its own required fields. The system will not accept spreadsheets that are missing required fields for the Company, People, Deals, and Activity objects.
To learn more about the specific required fields for an object, please refer to the Import Sample File
To segment your data:
-
Before you import, it is important to know how you will want to segment and share your data
-
-
Record Ownership: Assign each record (Company, Person, Deal or Activity) to the specific user that should own this data
-
- Note: When importing to the MMC Owner field - it is required to use email formatting (ex: kim@mapmycustomers.me). To assign a user as the owner of a record - this user MUST be created in MMC prior to the import
-
-
Groups: Groups allow you to create buckets of information that can be used for data sharing. This can be from fields such as region or sales rep and does not require email formatting
-
- Upon creation of the Groups - these will need to be shared with users via the Users and Permissions page or from the individual Group View on the Map
-
- Territories: Territories allow for the sharing of records that fall within a geographic boundary. Territory information does not need to be imported during the record imports and can be created via the separate Territory creation import modal. Please see the linked article for more information on creating Territories via import
-
Record Ownership: Assign each record (Company, Person, Deal or Activity) to the specific user that should own this data
-
Additional Tips and Tricks:
- Dropdown Fields: If you are importing into a dropdown custom field in MMC, create all necessary dropdown options in the Manage Fields settings PRIOR to importing data - dropdown options in the data file must exactly match options that exist in MMC
- Date Fields: Ensure all date fields are formatted as MM/DD/YYYY
- File Size: File cannot exceed 50MB in size and must be less than 100k rows
- File Header: File header must be a single row - ensure there are no "enter" values in the header
